“Fishermen of Si Phan Don” is a documentary exploration of the traditional life along the Khone Phapheng Falls—the largest waterfall in Southeast Asia. Located in Southern Laos, this region is home to a unique community of fishermen who navigate the treacherous, rushing waters of the Mekong with extraordinary skill and bravery. Central to their survival is the mastery of ancient techniques; the fishermen utilize various specialized traps, most notably the “Li”—a formidable traditional fish trap unique to the Si Phan Don area, designed to withstand the river’s immense power. > My lens captures the raw relationship between man and the river; the patience in the wait, and the precarious balance required to survive in one of nature’s most powerful environments. This series is a tribute to a disappearing way of life, reflecting the resilience and spiritual connection of a people bound to the rhythm of the great Mekong River.
